Ionia County Memorial Hospital Receives

Governor’s Award and Recognition of Excellence

Ionia County Memorial Hospital has received MPRO’s 2007 Governor’s Award for Improving Patient Safety and Quality of Care in the Critical Access Hospital Setting. Ionia County Memorial Hospital received the award for improving patient care for Clinical Performance and Patient Safety. In addition Ionia County Memorial Hospital also received the Governor’s Recognition of Excellence for being a top performer in Clinical Performance.

“Award recipients are committed to providing Michigan citizens with high quality health care,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.

Award criterion aligns with improving care in a number of clinical areas. These clinical areas are designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Critical Access hospitals focused on intense work in one or more of the following clinical areas:

·                    Clinical Performance

·                    AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction) Transfer

·                    Systems Improvement- Health Information  Technology

Furthermore as a recipient of the Governor’s Recognition of Excellence, Ionia County Memorial Hospital has been acknowledged for being a “top performing” hospital in each of the listed  award categories. Award criteria for the Governor’s Recognition of Excellence required that additional effort be put forward. This included a more intense approach to examining system processes, and in some cases, implementing system redesigns in order to meet defined criteria.

Ionia County Memorial Hospital established a multidisciplinary team to spearhead improvement measures using proven, evidence-based practices. “Together, our staff is demonstrating that we are providing the very best in medical treatment and care — the right care, each and every time. Our efforts have been enhanced through our collaborations with MPRO, Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization,” stated Bill Roeser, President and CEO of Ionia County Memorial Hospital.

The Governor and MPRO have partnered since 2003 to honor hospitals for their efforts to embrace best practices to improve systems and health outcomes. This marks the 5th year that Ionia County Memorial Hospital has received the Governor’s Award of Excellence.

The Governor’s Award has been enthusiastically supported by a variety of Michigan organizations and professional associations including: Alliance for Health; American Cancer Society; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; Michigan Academy of Physicians Assistants; Michigan Association for Healthcare Quality; Michigan Osteopathic Association; Michigan Rural Health Association; Michigan Quality Improvement Consortium; and the Michigan State Medical Society.

MPRO and the Governor honored Ionia County Memorial Hospital at an award ceremony on October 29, 2008, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Ionia County Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of Sparrow Health and a Critical Access Hospital, is a community governed healthcare facility that is committed to maintain and improve the health of the people of Ionia County.
