November 4, 2008 ICMH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED At their fall meeting, the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Foundation was pleased to award $8,500 to ICMH staff members continuing their education in healthcare. The funds are available through the ICMH Foundation, Vernice & Clarence Johnson Scholarship Fund, Charlotte & Ray Lapo Scholarship Fund, and Don and Emma Goodell Scholarship Fund, for continuing education purposes. The first scholarship of $2,000 was awarded to Teather Lowe, Ultrasonogher at ICMH. Teather is continuing her education as an Ultrasonographer by attending an Echocardiography seminar in the spring. This additional training will not only benefit Teather in her profession but also is a benefit to Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Danielle West, Radiology Technician, was the second recipient of a Foundation Scholarship. She received $1,200 to attend a CT Training Course through Medical Technological Management Institute in Milwaukee. Danielle has been employed at ICMH for 1 1/2 years in the Radiology Department and is taking this course to help her improve her technological knowledge and prepare for the ARRT CT Registry Examination. The next recipient was Wendy King, LPN, on our Med/Surg floor. Wendy is in her last semester of the Registered Nurse program at Montcalm Community College. She has worked at ICMH for three years mostly in Med/Surg, however she has worked in the Emergency Department also. Wendy was awarded $1,200 for her education expenses. Leslie Bendall, LPN, another full time nurse at Ionia County Memorial Hospital was also awarded $1,200. Leslie has worked at ICMH for six years and has almost completed the Nursing Program at Montcalm Community College. Her plans are to attain her Registered Nurse degree in May of 2009.
Michelle Heyboer, Saranac, a full-time coder in the Medical Records Department at Ionia County Memorial Hospital was awarded $1,200 to help pay for classes with National American University where she is working towards her Bachelors in Health Care Management.
An additional $3,000 was designated for staff education throughout the year. These funds were provided by the Don and Emma Goodell Scholarship Fund, which was created in the spring of 2007. To date, over $100,000 has been disseminated to hospital and community members to further their health education. The Lapo Scholarship Fund was created in October of 1973. The Don and Emma Goodell Scholarship Fund started in April of 2007 for the continuing education of hospital associates. | ||||||
