Sparrow Health System, Ionia County Memorial Hospital announce Healthcare Agreements

Today, Sparrow Health System (Sparrow) and Ionia County Memorial Hospital (ICMH) executed an affiliation agreement and a management services contract, which reflect their mutual commitment to strengthen and continuously enhance the healthcare services needed by the people who live in, and around, Ionia County.

“We are pleased that the ICMH Board, Physician, and Executive leadership teams invited Sparrow to assist with the issues of quality, service, access and cost, which all hospitals must confront,” said Dennis Swan, Sparrow President and CEO.  “Sparrow is committed to help continue the development and growth of Ionia County Memorial Hospital.”

Sparrow, which was founded 110 years ago, brings to the cooperative effort the resources of its comprehensive healthcare system, which includes the Physicians Health Plan of mid-Michigan HMO, Level I trauma services, a neonatal intensive care unit, and Centers of Excellence for Heart Disease, Cancer, Orthopedics, Neuroscience, Pediatrics, and Women’s Health.

Serving area residents since 1943, ICMH offers a range of hospital and clinical services, including a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency department, medical and surgical services, cardiac and intensive care units, full-service laboratory, spiral CT, physical therapy, five family medical physician offices and more.

“We will focus on the best interest of all of our Ionia County families by improving access to clinical services and operational efficiencies,” said George Rutherford, ICMH Interim President and CEO.  “Choosing to work with Sparrow is consistent with our mission: ensuring Ionia County Memorial Hospital’s long-term viability by providing high quality and timely access to inpatient and outpatient services as close to home as possible.”
