Hospital Positions Open

 

 

CENA (Full-time)
Provide quality patient care under the supervision of a licensed professional nurse. To assure patient safety and satisfaction during the patient’s hospital stay. Primary job responsibilities to include but not limited to: interact appropriately with patient to obtain vital signs. Demonstrates knowledge of normal vital sign parameters and is alert to variances from normal patient appearances. Promptly reports pertinent findings to licensed professional nurse. Includes patient and family input as appropriate while providing assistance with ADL and other basic care needs. Assures patient’s privacy and comfort while providing care. Answers call lights promptly and follows through with meeting patient needs. Qualified individuals will have a High School Diploma or GED, CENA/state certified, BLS certification and have a positive personality, and good communication skills.

 

 

Dietary Aide (Part-time, Per-diem)
The Aide works under direct and indirect supervision, performing various activities and services related to the distribution of food and meals for the hospital. Operates dish washing machine. Stores all dishware to designated areas. Washes, sanitizes and stores pots and pans. Assists on patient tray line, assembling trays for general and modified diets. Prepares and/or assembles desserts, appetizers, salads, juice, jello, sandwiches and cold entrees for patient tray line and cafeteria according to production sheets and standardized recipes. Checks, rotates, and stores stock and assists with food storage and clean-up. Stocks pantries and nursing units.  Monitors and documents temperatures of refrigerators, coolers, and freezers. Operates cash register and serves the public and/or staff. Performs related duties as assigned. May assist in department as needed. Participates in in-service meetings. Must be able to prepare items for general and modified diets for ages infant through geriatric. Adheres to sanitation/infectious control practices at all times. Delivers food transport carts to patient areas. Delivers patients meals and nourishments. Picks up transport carts at designated times. Ensures correct portion control. Position requirements include: High School graduate. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Do simple arithmetic, receive and give out correct change. High degree of personal cleanliness, hygiene, good physical and mental health. Ability to work in a team environment in addition to being self-directed, organized and efficient. Willing to accept responsibility. Ability to answer telephone and record messages accurately.

 


House Supervisor (Part-time)
Responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients throughout the organization on assigned tour of duty. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities: is the designated on-site hospital administrator after normal business hours. Responsible for all activities within the hospital in the absence of administrators and/or department managers. Plans, implements, directs and evaluates patient care throughout facility. Expert resource for nursing performance and ancillary staff consultant. Recommends, develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures. Assures regulatory compliance. Interviews, recommends hiring, and provides direction, appraisal, and discipline to nursing personnel as requested. Plans, develops and implements annual competency evaluation for nursing personnel. Develops work schedules as assigned, adjusts daily schedules as needed. Participates in performance improvement activities, recording and reporting. Promotes cost effectiveness, assists with budget development for nursing. Requirements for this position include: Current Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse. Desirable: Bachelor’s or other advanced degree in nursing or related field. Four years experience in clinical nursing in an acute care setting. Strong, positive interpersonal and communication skills required. Experience in administrative or management areas. Mastery of critical thinking skills as well as of nursing practice and leadership skills. Current BCLS and ACLS training.
 

 

LPN (Per-diem)
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides basic nursing services for the care and treatment of patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). In collaboration with the RN, the Licensed Practical Nurse assesses plans and implements individual patient care in a nursing department according to Nursing Services policies, procedures, and standards of care. Participates in the planning implementation and evaluation of performance improvement within the department, hospital, and community. Demonstrates knowledge and use of equipment used in department for patient care. Provides a safe environment for patient, family, and caregivers. Communicates appropriate significant information and changes in patient’s condition to members of the health care team. In collaboration with the RN, assesses patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing care according to evidence-based policies and guidelines. Assists RN with the development of the plan of care, and implements it as delegated by the RN. Documents assessment, plan, care given, and patient outcomes on the medical record. Responds to emergencies; maintains medications and supplies. Assists in physical examinations, administers routine tests, conducts training, and may provide related medical or mental health specialty services. Administers medications, performs diagnostic procedures and treatments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge of current trends in nursing and provides evidence of clinical competency. Current Michigan license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse required.
 


Medical Assistant (Full-time)

Provide basic patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. Performs various clerical and administrative duties under the direction of the Physician Practice Office Manager. Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians and office staff in a professional manner. Assists in assessing the condition of the patient, and preparing the patient for examination. Reports pertinent information to appropriate personnel and records data in patient record. Administers medication, performs diagnostic procedures and treatments in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Requirements for this position include high school diploma or GED; successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program; current certification in basic life support; minimum of six months experience in a physician health care office or similar setting and knowledge of computers, insurance and medical terminology. Applicant must also have excellent verbal and communication skills. Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

 

 

Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technologist (Per-diem)
Performs established laboratory procedures, maintains and operates instruments and evaluates, interprets and reports test results while meeting quality assurance parameters and provides information and related services as needed in assigned areas of the Laboratory Department. Qualified candidates must have/meet the following requirements: College degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science, nationally recognized certification. Demonstrated knowledge of disease processes as related to patient conditions and pertinent laboratory testing performed along with a basic knowledge of accuracy, precision, normal ranges and correlation with existing methods including evaluation of clinical specimens for suitability for testing and presence of interfering substances.

 


Pharmacy Tech Certified or Non-Certified (Per-diem)

The Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist(s) on duty in processing prescriptions, managing and maintaining the pharmacy department. Uses computer to enter prescribed orders and data to be verified by the pharmacist. Receives telephone calls and answers questions which do not require the professional judgment and input of the pharmacist. Receives new and refill prescription orders and processes them in a timely manner. Collects information needed to fill prescriptions and records information used in filling prescriptions. Assists pharmacist in safe preparation and delivery of IV’s and medications. Enters data into computer considering patient safety and confidentiality. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Debits and credits patient medications. Assists pharmacist in preparing prescriptions by counting, packaging, pouring medications, labeling containers and pricing prescriptions. Orders, prices and stacks pharmacy supplies. Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Two (2) years college degree or equivalent in pharmacy technology. Board certified pharmacy technician. Mathematical and IV preparation skills preferred but not required.


Registered Nurse-Chemo (Per-diem), Peri-operative (Full-time, Per-diem)

Emergency Dept. (Full-time, Per-diem) , Med/Surg. (Full-time, Per-diem)
Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services guided by the Transformational Model for the Professional Practice of Nursing. This individual is responsible for but not limited to: Plans, implements, directs and evaluates patient care according to the nursing process. Educates patients and families according to assessed need and documents education performed, coordinates clinical patient activities in the absence of the department manager. Develops, implements, updates, and evaluates the individualized plan of care based upon assessment of the patient and in conjunction with the medical diagnosis and treatment plan, and with the patient and family. Demonstrates knowledge and use of equipment used in department for patient care and provides a safe environment for patient, family, and caregivers. The RN will also communicate appropriate significant information and changes in patient’s condition to members of the health care team, along with documenting assessment, education, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes on the medical record. Responds to emergencies as required and maintains medications and supplies. Delegates, directs, and supervises implementation of care plan to LPN, PCT, CENA, or other health care workers. Assists in physical examinations, administers routine tests, conducts training, and may provide related medical or mental health specialty services. Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures. Qualified candidates must have/meet the following requirements: Current Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse, possess interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking skills as well as clinical knowledge needed to deliver quality patient care. Physically able to do lifting, moving, and transporting of patients and demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed to provide age specific care. Care is based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, cultural, and spiritual needs.
 


Registrar (Full-time)
The registration of outpatients in a timely and efficient manner. Verifies insurance, performs point-of-service cash collection, discharges patients following appropriate protocols, and provides customer service duties in a proactive and professional manner. Interacts with patients, family, healthcare providers and office staff to provide customer service, which meets and exceeds the needs of our patients and other customers. Performs all-encompassing registration and discharge duties for our patient customers. Coordinates appointment scheduling and appointment reminder calls as needed. Verifies insurance eligibility. Collects payments for co-pays, deductibles, and other patient balances. Collects all demographic and financial information in an accurate and professional manner. Assures the accuracy of all patient encounter forms associated with the patient visit. Assists with the training and continuing education of staff as needed. Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Ionia Hospital’s Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of those we serve. Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality, and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures. Follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information. Maintains and protects patient rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards. Qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, six months experience in a physician/hospital setting preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of computer keyboard skills required. Working knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis/procedure coding preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
 


Respiratory Therapist (Per-diem)
Under the supervision of the Cardio-Respiratory Supervisor, the Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory care and EKG services in accordance with specific physician's orders and department policies and procedures. Therapist is also responsible for Evidential Breath Testing (EBT) and Sleep Studies. Demonstrates proficiency in all department procedures. Demonstrates proficiency in all department equipment, including its function, indications for use, physiologic effects upon the patient and proper maintenance procedures. Be knowledgeable in the various methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each. Be alert for the possible side effects to oxygen delivery. Administer Respiratory Therapy treatments, understanding the purpose and possible side effects. Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. Perform arterial puncture, with a thorough knowledge of possible complications (requires annual certification by department medical director). Be competent in department cleaning procedures. Maintain current Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) certification. Performs EBT's as required. Follows department safety guidelines. Knows location and use of emergency devices. Familiar with MSDS material.Perform all additional duties as assigned by the department manager. Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Valid Respiratory Therapist License issued by the State of Michigan.
NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Certified Breath Alcohol Technician.

 


Office Manager – Family Health Center Portland
The physician practice manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of one or more practice sites. This includes, but is not limited to, staffing, patient flow, expense management and other functions required to maintain an effective service oriented practice. In conjunction with site providers, determines staffing needs required. Selects, trains and supervises, evaluates and disciplines site staff. Processes time records and all other Associate records required by Sparrow Ionia Hospital. Orients and oversees the continuing education of practice Associates. Develops and implements systems to ensure the smooth, efficient, ongoing operation of the practice. Ensures that providers’ needs are met. In conjunction with the physicians, develops and monitors key performance indicators on a regular basis. Recommends action plans to correct any negative variances. Works in conjunction with Revenue Cycle Director to ensure that data input and collection procedures are appropriately followed. In conjunction with the Coordinator of Performance Improvement, develops, implements and monitors quality assurance standards for the site. Monitors budget performance on a monthly basis. Establishes policies, procedures and protocols necessary to accomplish daily tasks, processes and long range goals consistent with standards established by Sparrow Ionia Hospital. Facilitates positive communication, and serve as a liaison between practice site and the various Sparrow Ionia Hospital departments, as well as outside agencies and community groups. Ensures that established policies and procedures; fire, safety, OSHA guidelines and accrediting body regulations are followed in the practice. Requirements include: Associates degree in business or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years increasing responsibility in an ambulatory care setting. Supervisory experience in multiple physician practice preferred. Previous experience with physician practice budget billing process preferred.
